Mission Statement
The mission of Urban Bible College is to prepare emerging leaders for biblical service in the urban community. This involves examining the Christian faith, forming a biblical theology and Christian worldview, and engaging contemporary culture with the message and claims of the Gospel.
Heritage of Reconciliation
The heritage of UBC is rooted in the Azuza Street revival that took place at the turn of the twentieth century in Los Angeles. At its inception, the revival generated a multi-cultural, multi-racial and gender-inclusive community of Spirit-empowered Christians. These believers were committed to evangelism, peace-making and reconciliation. This movement created a strong commitment to cultural diversity, racial reconciliation and gender equality, values that are reflected at UBC today.
Urban Focus
The College's urban setting expresses its commitment to central city transformation. UBC is an integral part of City on a Hill, a dynamic urban ministry center in downtown Milwaukee. Its location is directly linked with its mission to prepare emerging leaders for service in our nation's cities. The many social challenges, as well as the positive resources of urban living, provide a dynamic educational experience. Urban Bible College students are actively involved in field ministry on the City on a Hill campus and with many of City on a Hill's urban ministry partners in the central city.
Cultural Diversity
The urban focus mandates a inclusion of people of all ethnicities, and concern for the oppressed and the poor. Christians cannot be concerned about people on the other side of the world and neglect those who are in physical and spiritual need here in the major cities of the United States. Diverse ethnic communities make up the cities of America and City College desires to have students from many different cultural backgrounds. The college is committed to creating and maintaining an environment that welcomes and values people from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. This commitment empowers UBC to enrich its campus community and effectively serve all its constituencies. The goal is to be a community of believers who are increasingly engaged in racial reconciliation.
Spiritual Growth
Urban Bible College is committed to encouraging its students in the area of spiritual growth and character development as well as academic advancement. Student small groups, chapel services, prayer journaling, and mentoring relationships all assist the students in these areas.
