What We Believe
Doctrine
-
Urban Bible College emphasizes serving God with the view that no matter what a person may do in life, loving and serving the Lord is the highest priority. This is the Christian's main purpose; all other involvements flow out of one's relationship with
God.
-
Urban Bible College sees service to God as primarily expressed through the local congregation and its extended services. Christians are people of the church, where they have their primary sphere of activity, social involvement, work, and recreation.
-
Urban Bible College also serves the world by fulfilling the Great Commission of taking the gospel to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth, winning the lost, and pushing back the powers of spiritual darkness that hold the world in bondage.
-
Urban Bible College is a school of the Spirit, acting in the truth that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God affect the mind, emotions, will and body. UBC also believes that the power of the Spirit enables a person to become an effective leader in community service.
Statement of Faith
We Believe...
-
The Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
-
That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
-
That for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
-
In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
-
In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
-
In the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. National Association of Evangelicals
Distinctives of Our Faith
Throughout the history of the Christian church, faith has been expressed in a variety of ways. There are five distinctives in the theological foundation of Urban Bible College. Students do not have to subscribe to these distinctives to attend classes or to graduate from UBC, but the school does expect students to show respect for the beliefs taught at UBC. The college holds to its distinctives while at the same time acknowledging and respecting the distinctives of other denominations in the Christian Church.
-
Ordinance of baptism by immersion. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized.
-
Ordinance of the Lord's Supper. This consists of the elements of bread and fruit of the vine as a memorial of Christ's suffering and death.
-
The baptism in the Holy Spirit as witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4).
-
Divine healing as an integral provision of the atonement.
-
The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on the earth for one thousand years.
